Design?

To paraphrase Newark (2002, P.6); Design is how we interact with the word through an unspoken language. It is that feeling that we know what a sign or poster etc. is roughly about before even being in reading range. It is the form of transforming hand written messages into something that is easily recognisable.

‘The use of words and images on more or less everything, more or less everywhere’ (Kalman 1991)

Cezzar (2015) said ‘Design that’s meant to be experienced in an instant is the easiest to recognise and has been around the longest.’ She made the point that ‘For over a hundred years, designers have arranged type, form, and image on posters, advertisements, packages, and other printed matter, as well as information visualisations and graphics for newspapers and magazines.’ All in an attempt to attract a specific customer or as many people as possible. This is where design has grew and developed to ensure a designer fulfils the need of their client
